7/23/09 Gunnar Chad Clark

Well, I'm sitting in the hospital room waiting to be able to go home. Sorry I don't have pictures yet. We forgot to bring the cord to the hospital. I'll try to get them up as soon as I can. But, I thought I'd at least tell the birth story, for those that are interested. I arrived at the hospital at 8:30 am (I was suppose to be there at 8, but it was harder to get out of the house than I expected). They got me settled in a room, monitors, admission stuff, IV started, etc. She started the antibiotics at 9:30, which means I would have to wait for 4 hours until getting my next dose and eventually the baby's birth. So we just hung out. My sister Dena showed up a few hours later, and then my mom. I was having the usual contractions, but nothing regular. The nurse said the doctor would be here at 12 noon to break my bag of water. At about 1:45 she came in and hung the next dose of antibiotics and said she wasn't sure where the doctor was. Well, he showed up a little while later, and at 2:05pm, he broke my bag. The contractions didn't really get started for about another hour. They were a little stronger by then, but not real frequent. Becky and Brittany showed up during that time and we all just hung out chatting. By 4:30 the contractions were getting pretty painful and I could tell things were finally getting started. So I got in the shower and Grant helped to coach me through my breathing. At 5:00 Grant thought I looked like I was getting close. So he had the nurse come in and check me. She said I was 6 cms. After that the contractions got even stronger, and 20 minutes later I was feeling a lot of pressure. So Grant went and got her again. She said I was 8cm and that the head was really low. I told her it wouldn't be long and to go get the doctor. His office is just down the hall. I started making my way back to the bed amidst some contractions. I got back in bed and breathed through 2 contractions. The third one I started feeling a ton of pressure and turned to the nurse (also named Stacy) and told her the baby was coming and the doctor better get here quick! She paged him again. I then screamed that the baby was here. She ran over to the bed and said, "No, he's not here yet". "Well, he's coming NOW!" I replied, and out came the head. Chris and HollyAnn were also in the room helping out since there was no doc. Stacy then delivered the shoulders and handed me the baby. About 10 secs later, the doctor walked in! Gunnar was born at 5:40pm. He weighed 8lbs and is 21 inches long. He has Troy's blonde hair, Abby's eyes, Ashlin's dimples (in the right cheek only), and a Clark nose. He's absolutely beautiful, and we are so glad he is here safely. The doctor was a little bummed he didn't make it for the delivery, but he took care of all the after stuff. I had a little more bleeding than usual, so I was glad that he was there to take care of those problems. I'll spare you all the details! We are both excited and nervous to be going home and living the life of a family of 6! The kids came and saw the baby that night. They absolutely adore him! Troy would not leave his side! It's definitely going to be a challenge keeping Troy from loving Gunnar too much!
